Private beta: an approved account is required
During the private beta, apply for founding access before downloading. Approved writers receive a personal invite code, use it to create an account, and get the Mac download from the signed-in account page. The installer is not offered publicly while the beta is closed.
Free account: 10,000 local words a month
A free account (sign in with Apple, Google, or email) gets you 10,000 local words every month, at no cost. Dictation still runs entirely on-device — we never see your words, only the monthly count, so we can tell you when you are close to the limit and reset it each month.
Pro: unmetered local, plus a cloud allowance
Pro removes the local word cap entirely, and adds an optional cloud engine with a generous monthly fair-use allowance for harder audio. When Pro is live, your account surface shows how much of your cloud allowance you have used and when it renews.
Exact figure comes at launchWe are not quoting the exact cloud allowance here because it is tuned before release, but it is sized for how a fiction writer actually dictates, not a token trickle. If you ever reach it, Murmurtale keeps working — dictation continues automatically on the on-device engine. It never stops you cold.
